I am an Arabic teacher at CRHS, originally from Alexandria, Egypt. I hold a bachelor’s degree in teaching English and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies. I taught in Egypt for 15 years.
In 2009, I was honored to present a model lesson at Harvard University, and in 2011, I was selected by the American Council's Teacher of Critical Languages program to teach Arabic in the United States. During that time, I taught in Salt Lake City, Utah.
I deeply value my connection to the American educational system and am committed to sharing my experience and passion for teaching.
I am married to a wonderful Math teacher who also works at CRHS. We have 3 children: our eldest daughter is a graduate of Princeton University, our younger daughter is a senior at DSU, and our son is a junior at CRHS.
April McElrath
Candidate Statement:
During my career, I have been driven by change and found my purpose in representing all educators from those aspiring to be educators; to those that have retired from education. Being a 3rd generation educator, I have witnessed firsthand the historical, political, and social growth of the educational culture.
As a building representative, I have had the privilege of building an allyship between our administration and building employees. Over the past few months as a Member Organizer, I have also been able to connect with several other buildings within my district to do 1:1 meetings about how their school year has been going thus far. I have built relationships based on trust, consistency, and accountability.
Now, I would like to grow my knowledge of DSEA and be an asset on the Executive Board level.

Candidate Statement:
I am a Kindergarten teacher, Building Rep, Membership Co-Chair, and Negotiations Co-Chair for Lake Forest. I also represent DSEA on the DPAS Advisory Committee as chair. I am asking again for your vote of support for a seat on the Executive Board. Being on the board has given me opportunities to promote public education across the state. There is still much more that needs to happen in education in regards to salaries for all employee groups, working conditions, and best serving the needs of all of our students. I still would like to continue to advocate as a voice to all member groups across Kent County and the state Delaware and aide in the decision making for DSEA members that are in the best interest of our members and students. I would love to continue to serve the members of DSEA in this capacity. Thank you!
Tawana Prophet-Brinkley
