DSEA's Human and Civil Rights Task Force honors Delawareans each year for outstanding contributions and achievements in the areas of human and civil rights. In addition, the HCR Awards recognize outstanding student submissions in writing, art, and technology categories. Their submissions focus on the importance of diversity and its impact on our society.
DSEA awards several recognitions each year as part of its "Celebration of Leadership" event, held just prior to the annual Representative Assembly each March. The recognitions range from outstanding contributions made to public education to individuals who show outstanding member advocacy. Award recipients come from a wide spectrum of public education-focused positions in Delaware, but share the focus of having worked tirelessly to improve the quality of public education in our state.
What is the Superstars in Education Awards Program?
Created in 1989 and supported by the business community, Superstars in Education is a statewide program that recognizes members of Delaware’s education community who have implemented and sustained best practices and innovative educational programs.
This year, they are highlighting excellence in science teaching, integrated classroom technology practices, and school-to-career partnerships. Additionally, a special award will be presented recognizing business/community leadership in supporting education.
The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) are the nation's highest honors for teachers of mathematics and science (including computer science). Awardees serve as models for their colleagues, inspiration to their communities, and leaders in the improvement of mathematics and science education.
The Delaware Teacher of the Year program is administered by the Delaware Department of Education. Each year the program honors a Delaware teacher who exemplifies fine teaching in the state. The purpose of the program is to select a teacher who is worthy of speaking for and representing the positive contributions of all teachers statewide.
